Project

Remediation of an industrialised area of an existing naval base. The principal contaminant was asbestos and hydrocarbons.

The Works

Facilitation of service diversions to clear site of live services.

Demolition of an existing security building, breakout and recycling of concrete slabs and obstructions.

Hydrocarbon hotspot excavation and disposal.

Excavation of service & foundation corridors and reduced level excavation in contaminated ground and disposal.

Import and backfilling to form an engineered construction platform.

Watching brief was undertaken to identify areas of unknown contamination and services (e.g. Asbestos).

Approximately 3200m3 of material was excavated and disposed offsite.

Overcoming Constraints

Due to the location of the site there were many services present including significant fibre communication cabling along with the potential for unknown services.

Worked collaboratively with the main contractor to facilitate the many service diversions required and also to meet the project stakeholders handover date.
