Churngold Remediation Ltd are pleased to announce the successful completion of an ‘Enabling and Remediation Works’ package at a prime harbourside location delivered under the watching brief of consulting engineers Arup.

The £25 million, 17,000 m2, mixed use waterfront development shall comprise of up to 194 apartments and an exciting new, restaurant (and retail) lined, pedestrian/cycle link route between Southville and the city centre.

Works completed by Churngold Remediation Ltd included:

  • Contaminant delineation;
  • Removal of hazardous waste soils (to a licenced treatment facility);
  • Chemical and geotechnical validation;
  • 3 m, reduced level (basement) dig;
  • Foundation removal;
  • Installation of a capping layer and geotechnical improvement of site soils;
  • Service/drainage trenching works; and
  • Demolition (boundary wall).

Churngold facilitated the appropriate permitting of the site including the application and implementation of a site specific Materials Management Plan and Deployment Form (Mobile Treatment Licence). The permit application process was expedited by in house (ex-Agency) staff expertise and careful project planning enabled mobilisation within one week of order.

The site was audited during delivery by the Environment Agency to their satisfaction (no improvements required).  Works were successfully completed without any health and safety incidents to the satisfaction of the client and Arup.
